What is the Gospel Like?

Jesus, in Matthew 13 begins to tell numerous parables that consist of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus, in verse 44 says:

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
Matthew 13:44

Jesus gives us a parable to consider pertaining to the importance of the Kingdom. The Kingdom of Heaven could be described as entering into a personal, tangible and real relationship with Jesus. Jesus, when He radically moves, always radically changes the individuals he enters in. So, Jesus in this parable says, “What is the greatest thing to spend your money, time, affection and energy on? Me!”

Jesus says in this parable, “Nothing is worth more than me. Nothing is more important than getting to know me. I will bring true satisfaction and joy!” Notice the response of the man who finds the treasure – he immediately sells everything with joy. He truly counts all as a loss compared to knowing Christ Jesus. May our hearts burn as much as the man in the parable for Jesus. May we put all things in their proper place: marriage, money, friendship, jobs and everything else – is sub par compared to Jesus.  May our hearts have the same response as this man, “Lord, it’s all rubbish compared to you.”
