A Prayer for the Christmas Season: Contentment

Categories: Bible,Church,Events

“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” 1 Timothy 6-6-8

Father, I thank you that in You there is the fullness of joy, life and vitality. In your presence there is an exhaustible fountain of wealth and wisdom. You never fade, perish or tire. You are eternal, everlasting, forever. Father, grant that my eyes may be opened to the bigness of who You are. Forgive me when I view you as small and insignificant.

Forgive me when I run to the treasures and trinkets of this world to satisfy the longing in my heart that can only be satisfied in You. Forgive me when I make this season about trivial treasures instead of focusing on Immanuel, God with us. Father, the riches of man do not compare to the glory of who You are.

Grant this season that my eyes may opened to your sufficiency. Allow me to rest in your grace and mercy rather than chasing the next big thing. Grant that I would experience 1 Timothy 6:6 in a real way even if that means possessions are stripped away from me. Sanctify me in the truth that godliness with contentment is great gain rather than advancements on this earth.

God I beg that you would strip away any tendency to want to find my joy and satisfaction in earthly things. I ask that you simply would be enough this season, this year, and ultimately, the rest of my life. Deepen my dependence upon you so that you may receive glory and praise through my life.

Father, this Christmas season, I pause to reflect and ponder upon the majesty of your Son coming to earth. I glorify Your Name that You would give the greatest gift, Jesus Christ, for people who were not good and nice all year. I praise Your Name that He paid the ultimate price so that the greatest gift of all would be credited to my account: His perfect righteousness.

Father, in your presence there is the fullness of joy and at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. Deepen my dependence, reliance and joy in you this season. For your honor and fame. Amen.
